The Lillooet River Adventure
The Lillooet Adventure is accessible by
jet boat from Harrison Lake near the Harrison Hot Springs Resort.
This is truly a remote wilderness adventure where wildlife is plentiful.
Black bears and beautiful bald eagles are a frequent site in this
area. The occasional grizzly bear and deer can also be seen walking
the river banks that are surrounded by the beautiful snow capped
Coast Mountains.
The Lillooet River is 90 miles long and originates from the melt-water
of the Lillooet Glacier, high in the Coast Mountain Range, north of
Vancouver. It flows south and east past the towns of Pemberton and
Mount Currie, to empty into the north end of Harrison Lake. A
widening of the river near Pemberton forms Lillooet lake (35.3 sq
km). The lower river valley north of Harrison Lake north is steeped in
our local history and was part of the Douglas Road to the interior,
used between 1858 and 1862. This road was named after one of our
more colorful and controversial governors, Sir James Douglas. This
road was the principle means of traveling to the Interior during the Gold Rush
until a new road through the Fraser River Canyon was cut.
Round trip, this adventure is approximately 110 miles, or 177 km, from
the boat launch to the river and back. Water transportation
will be provided in comfortable, 20-22 foot long , heated jet boats.
All
trips are at least 8 hours per day and include an experienced guide
and all gear.
